rease CITY OF
pLEASANTONO
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
2
September 21, 2010
Law Department
TITLE: ADOPTION OF RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE LOCAL
TAXPAYER, PUBLIC SAFETY AND TRANSPORTATION PROTECTION
ACT OF 2010 (PROPOSITION 22)
SUMMARY
A coalition of local government, transportation and transit advocates, including the
California League of Cities, qualified this constitutional amendment for placement as
Proposition 22 on California's November 2010 statewide ballot. The Local Taxpayer,
Public Safety and Transportation Protection Act of 2010 would amend various sections
of the California Constitution. Vice Mayor Jerry Thorne asked that the Pleasanton City
Council take a position on this measure. Pursuant to City Council direction, materials
regarding Proposition 22 were distributed to the Council before the matter was placed
on this agenda.
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt the attached resolution in support of the Local Taxpayer, Public Safety and
Transportation Protection Act of 2010.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
There would be no fiscal impacts associated with adopting the resolution, however, over
the long term the protections in the Proposition will offer greater stability for Pleasanton
revenues and reduce the likelihood of raids by the State to balance its budget.
