THE CITY OE <br /> ==� �`'' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT 12 <br /> pL£ASANTONo <br /> August 17, 2010 <br /> Parks and Community Services <br /> TITLE: AWARD OF CONTRACT TO JILL TURMAN IN THE AMOUNT OF <br /> $11,400 TO PURCHASE BIKE RACK SCULPTURES FOR THE <br /> FIREHOUSE ARTS CENTER <br /> SUMMARY <br /> Two (2) sculptural bike racks, designed by Artist Blacksmith Jill Turman and intended <br /> for installation near both entrances of the Firehouse Arts Center, have been reviewed <br /> and approved by the Civic Arts Commission, the Parks and Recreation Commission, <br /> and the Ad Hoc Trails Committee. Public input was overwhelmingly positive when <br /> collected at a recent Downtown Pleasanton event. <br /> CIVIC ARTS AND PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION <br /> That the City initiate the fabrication and installation of the sculptural bike racks. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Staff concurs with the recommendations of the Civic Arts Commission and the Parks <br /> and Recreation Commission. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> The sculptural bike rack designed for the west entrance, entitled "Spiral," is priced at <br /> $5,400. The green bike rack designed for the east and park side of the facility, entitled <br /> "Entwine," is $6,000. There would be minor additional costs to the City of Pleasanton in <br /> the preparation of surface area for the installation of the bike racks. The money for this <br /> project has been set aside and is currently available in the Arts Acquisition Fund and <br /> was approved for the FY 2009 -2010 Operating Budget. Upon approval of this contract <br /> by Council, these funds will be carried to the FY 2010/11 Operating Budget to fund this <br /> expenditure. <br />
