THE CITY OF C
I L£AS TONG CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
January 19, 2010
Community Development
Engineering Division
TITLE: ADOPT A RESOLUTION APPROVING A MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT
WITH THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
(CALTRANS) FOR LANDSCAPE MAINTAINANCE AT HOPYARD
ROAD /I -580 ON -RAMPS AND OFF -RAMPS
SUMMARY
The Hopyard Road on -ramps and off -ramps at the 1 -580 freeway currently contain
weeds and a few shrubs, and have been considered for future landscaping
improvements to enhance this gateway into the City of Pleasanton. This land, however,
is controlled by the State of California. In order for the City to install trees, groundcover
and irrigation systems within the State's right -of -way in the future, the State is requiring
the City to enter into an agreement to maintain the landscaping at this location once
landscaping is installed. To enter into this agreement, the City Council needs to adopt a
resolution approving the Maintenance Agreement and authorizing the City Manager to
sign the Maintenance Agreement with the State.
RECOMMENDATION
1. Adopt a resolution approving the attached Agreement for Landscape
Maintenance within State Highway Right of Way on Route 580 within the City
of Pleasanton.
2. Authorize the City Manager to execute the attached agreement.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
Adopting this resolution and authorizing the execution of the maintenance agreement
shall have no immediate financial impact to the City. At such time as the City completes
a project installing landscaping elements at these on -ramps and off- ramps, the City's
Parks Maintenance Division will begin to incur the cost of maintenance for this site. The
cost of this maintenance is unknown at this time, but will be estimated prior to awarding
a contract for installation of the landscaping.
