THE CITY OF 09
_ra
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pL E ASANTONo
October 6, 2009
Parks and Community Services
TITLE: APPROVAL OF CONTRACT WITH SAN FRANCISCO SHAKESPEARE
FESTIVAL FOR PRODUCTION SERVICES FOR CIVIC ARTS PROGRAM
SUMMARY
As part of its Civic Arts Presents season at the Amador Theater, the City produces two
(2) to three (3) theatrical productions per year. Although the City has limited "in- house"
resources, it contracts with an outside company to create and coordinate all the
technical elements for each of the shows. This includes stage management, audition
coordination, as well as the design and execution of the scenery, costumes and
theatrical lighting. In addition, the contractor would implement specific marketing ideas
to promote the production. San Francisco Shakespeare Festival has been providing the
Pleasanton community with their ever popular (award winning) "Free Shakespeare in
the Park" program for the past 10 years. San Francisco Shakespeare Festival has
proven that they have the ability to provide first -rate, full scale theater productions and is
a logical choice for the City to partner with in the holiday production of Cinderella.
RECOMMENDATION
Approve the attached professional services agreement with San Francisco
Shakespeare Festival for technical coordination and theatrical design services for the
Civic Arts Stage Company holiday production of Cinderella, in an amount not to exceed
$35,000.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
Funds in the Civic Arts Presents operating budget for 2009 -2010 will provide $35,000 of
the required funding. It is estimated these costs will be offset by the following projected
revenues:
Revenue:
Six (6) School Concert Performances $2,000 x 6 performances $12,000
Seven (7) Public Performances $1,800 x 7 performances $12,600
One (1) SaturYAY!
