r THE CITY OF 8 CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> E A.JTON0 <br /> July 21, 2009 <br /> Community Development <br /> Engineering Division <br /> TITLE: APPROVAL OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, REVIEW OF BIDS, AND <br /> AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT TO SOTO BROTHERS PAVING <br /> COMPANY, INC. IN THE AMOUNT OF $45,955 FOR THE VALLEY <br /> AVENUE PEDESTRIAN AND BICYCLE PATH PROJECT, CIP NO. 077036 <br /> SUMMARY <br /> Plans and specifications were prepared for the Valley Avenue Pedestrian and Bicycle <br /> Path project. Bids have been received and staff is recommending award of the <br /> construction contract to the lowest responsible bidder, Soto Brothers Paving Company, <br /> Inc. in the amount of $45,955. The subject project consists of the removal and disposal <br /> of existing fence, bollards, and gates, and the construction of a 700 foot asphalt <br /> concrete paved pedestrian /bicycle path along the south side of Valley Avenue between <br /> Case Avenue and Sunol Boulevard (see Attachment 1 for location map). <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> 1. Approve the plans and specifications for the subject project. <br /> 2. Review the bids received and award the construction contract to Soto Brothers <br /> Paving Company, Inc. of Ceres, California in the amount of $45,955. <br /> 3. Authorize the City Manager to enter into the above construction contract. <br /> 4. Authorize the Director of Community Development to approve and execute <br /> contract change orders for a contingency amount not to exceed $9,200 (20% of <br /> the construction contract), if necessary, for related subject project work. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> On August 29, 2007, the MTC approved an allocation of TDA Article 3 funds to the City <br /> of Pleasanton for FY 07 -08 in the amount of $50,000 for the project. In order to <br /> augment construction funding to complete the project, staff requested MTC to apply FY <br /> 08 -09 TDA Article 3 funding to the same project. Subsequently, on July 23, 2008, the <br /> MTC approved an additional allocation for this project in the amount of $47,102 for FY <br /> 08 -09. In addition, a CIP allocation of $45,000 was made in fiscal year 2008 -2009, <br /> bringing the total funding available for this project to $142,102. <br />
