THE CITY OF 1 3
Ao= ,
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pL£ASANTONc
January 18, 2022
City Manager
TITLE: CONSIDER FUNDING OPTIONS FOR COMMUNITY BENEFIT
ORGANIZATIONS THAT SUPPORT AND EXPAND THE PROVISION OF
SERVICES AND AMENITIES TO PLEASANTON RESIDENTS
SUMMARY
At its January 4, 2022, meeting the City Council requested options be presented for
consideration to address how the City might grant financial support to community
benefit organizations that, while not directly providing services to Pleasanton residents,
do support the network of local nonprofit services by building additional capacity and
contributions. City staff has prepared three options for the City Council's consideration:
Option 1. Offer a one-time grant of up to $50.000 for community benefit organizations;
grant applications would be reviewed by the Human Services Commission and
approved by the Pleasanton City Council, separately but in parallel with the Housing
and Human Services Grant Program.
Option 2. Add an additional category to the existing Housing and Human Services Grant
Program that would allocate up to $50,000 to community benefit organizations.
Option 3. Direct the Human Services Commission to provide a recommendation to the
City Council regarding a future funding option(s) for community benefit organizations.
RECOMMENDATION
City staff recommends the City Council select Option 1: Offer a one-time grant up to
$50,000 for community benefit organizations, and appropriate $50,000 from the General
Fund.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
If the City Council adopts Option 1 or Option 2 a $50,000 allocation from the General
Fund would be required, which would be considered as part of the FY 2022/23 mid-term
budget. If the City Council selects Option 3 the City Council would consider the Human
Services Commission's recommendation and at that time determine if additional funding
is required.
