THE CITY OF
9
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pLEASANTONE
December 4, 2018
Engineering
TITLE: APPROVE A PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AGREEMENT WITH JEFF
KATZ ARCHITECTURE IN THE AMOUNT OF $120,500 TO DESIGN AND
ASSIST WITH CONSTRUCTION ADMINISTRATION OF THE
PLEASANTON LIBRARY OFFICE REMODEL PROJECT
SUMMARY
City staff, working with Jeff Katz Architecture (JKA), has developed a concept design to
remodel the Pleasanton Library office area to accommodate both the existing staff and
the Library and Recreation staff that are currently located in the modular office space at
200 Old Bernal, behind Community Development. The concept has been reviewed and
approved by the Friends of the Library and the Library Commission. This agreement
with JKA for $120,500 will take the concept design to biddable construction documents.
Construction is currently estimated at approximately $1.25 million including the
purchase of new modular furniture for the remodeled area, but the estimate will be
refined as the design progresses. JKA was chosen through a Request for Qualifications
(RFQ) process. At the time the RFQ was advertised, the project under consideration
was a remodel and addition to the Senior Center to relocate Community Services staff
from the modular. When the Library and Recreation Department was created, the
project was updated to a library office area remodel to relocate the combined
department staff.
RECOMMENDATION
1. Approve and authorize the City Manager to execute a professional services
agreement with Jeff Katz Architecture in the amount of$120,500 to design and
assist with construction administration of the Pleasanton Library Office Remodel
project.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
There is a total of$1.28 million available in the Senior Center Facility Remodel Project,
CIP No. 17750, to fund this design agreement. Once the design is complete, there will
be $1,159,500 available for construction and furniture procurement.
