THE CITY OF 7
- -• °' °' -'- "' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
[~L£ ~S~4NTONo
February 17, 2009
Parks and Community Services
TITLE: ACCEPTANCE OF PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS PERFORMED BY
SUAREZ 8~ MUNOZ CONSTRUCTION, INC. FOR WEST LAS POSITAS
MEDIAN ISLAND LANDSCAPING, PHASE 2, PROJECT NO. 087041
SUMMARY
Construction of the planting and irrigation improvements for the second and final phase
of this project is now complete and ready for acceptance by the Council. The first
phase consisted of complete renovation of landscaping and irrigation systems in nine
(9) western median islands on West Las Positas Boulevard, from Santa Rita Road to
Thistledown Court. The work of this second phase completed the median island
renovation from Thistledown Court to Boardwalk Street. This project includes plant
material that improves driver visibility from vehicles, that is easier to maintain and that is
consistent with current City Standards. The project was funded by the Park Renovation
Fund.
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council take the following actions at its meeting of February 17, 2009:
1. Accept the project improvements;
2. Authorize the City Clerk to file a Notice of Completion; and
3. Authorize payment of the retention in the amount of $18,723.70 to Suarez &
MurSoz Construction, Inc., 30 days after recordation of the Notice of
Completion.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The original construction contract with Suarez & Munoz Construction, Inc. was
$186,200. A single change order of $1,036.96 was issued in order to correct an
oversight in the project's design. The total project cost was therefore $187,236.96.
Construction of this project was funded through the Park Renovation Fund.
As this landscaped area was already maintained by the Parks Maintenance Division, it
is not anticipated that additional routine maintenance costs will be incurred.
