CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT May 7, 2013 Api it lb, tui0 Community Development Traffic Engineering Division TITLE: ADOPT A RESOLUTION TO EXPAND THE RESIDENTIAL PERMIT PARKING PROGRAM TO INCLUDE WALNUT DRIVE SUMMARY Residents of Walnut Drive have petitioned the City to expand the Residential Permit Parking Program to include their street. Staff has reviewed this request and determined the criteria are met for installation of Residential Permit Parking. Staff recommends that the City Council approve the expansion of the Residential Permit Parking Program to include Walnut Drive. The non-resident parking from the neighboring businesses causes an inconvenience to residents. RECOMMENDATION Adopt the attached resolution to expand the Residential Permit Parking Program to include Walnut Drive. FINANCIAL STATEMENT There is an initial cost of signing, issuing permits and enforcement (estimate $2,800). Permits currently have the fee set at $10 per year to help defray costs of the program, however this fee has not been collected from residents in some time. The Police Department is currently reviewing this practice and may recommend the implementation of the collection of the fee and an increase to the fee collected. Currently the Police Department dedicates 15 to 20 hours each week for parking enforcement. This includes enforcement of all parking regulations in the City of Pleasanton. While the addition of Walnut Drive to the Residential Permit Parking Program may not create a need for additional enforcement personnel, each time a new street is added, it will add an incremental amount to the time required for administration and enforcement.
