~EEAS,

WHEREAS,

WtlEREAS,

CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION N0.82-86

A P~SOLUTION APPROVING A VARIANCE TO THE
OFF-STREET PARKING STANDARDS WHICH WOULD ALLOW
AN ADDITIONAL UNIT TO BE ADDED TO THE TRIPLEX
LOCATED AT 4673 AUGUSTINE STREET

Wanda Aldridge applied for a variance from Article
16 (Off-Street Parking Facilities) of Chapter 2,
Title II of the Ordinance Code of the City of
Pleasanton to enable her to add a unit to the
triplex located at 4673 Augustine Street without
the required number of off-street parking spaces;
and

the staff report indicated that the required number
of parking spaces could be supplied if minor
reductions in the off-street parking standards
were made, to wit: reducing back-up space from
25 feet to 23 feet and reducing the width of the
new parallel parking space from 9 feet to 8 feet;
and

public testimony at the Harch 9, 1982, meeting
indicated that (1) the project site is substandard
in width, making provision of parking lot configura-
tions meeting code standards difficult, (2) the
existing development and parking lot layout
preclude alternative parking lot configuations,
(3) numerous other older apartment projects in the
vicinity have substandard parking lot configurations,
(4) vehicles presently park in a fashion so that
only 23 feet of back-up space is available with
no maneuvering or safety problems, (5) parking
facilities both on- and off-street in the vicinity
are ample, and (6) Augustine Street carries
only small volumes of traffic, minimizing safety
problems of backing onto the street; and

under the conditions prescribed, the City Council
finds that:

special circumstances are applicable to the
property (its width and existing development)
such that strict application of the provisions
of'the zoning chapter deprives the property
of privileges enjoyed by other properties in
the vicinity and under identical zoning
classification;
