CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION NO. 82-483

RESOLUTION REAFFIRMING CITY COUNCIL'S COMMITMENT
TO HIGH QUALITY DEVELOPMENT AND BALANCED GROWTH
FOR PLEASANTON

WHEREAS,

the City of Pleasanton stands today at a Pivotal
point, a point where we must either move ahead or
place in jeopardy the future Drosperity of our
community; and

WHEREAS,

a small minority has attempted to discredit the
decisions of Pleasanton's duly elected representatives
through court proceedings rather than participating
in the normal, established channels the system
provides for public input and participation during
the decision-making process;

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON
RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1:

The City Council reaffirms every councilmember's
commitment to the welfare and long-term prosperity
of Pleasanton and its citizens; and to following
through on the intent of the General Plan to make
Pleasanton a community with jobs for its residents, and
sufficient monies to pay for the public and cultural
services its citizens deserve, while still observing
proper concern for the environment.

Section 2:

A flyer published by this small minority contains
a multitude of factual errors and misleading
statements, including the following:

The flyer claims that an assessment district
could raise taxes for Pleasanton citizens.
The truth is that the developers and companies
locating at the business parks in North
Pleasanton are the only ones the assessment
district will tax, not residential owners,
established businesses, or firms owning less
than two acres.

The flyer claims that the Council can impose
special taxes at will. The truth is that a
special tax can be adopted only upon a two-
thirds (2/3) vote of the Deople. As a matter
of fact, the fiscal imDact study shows that
the North Pleasanton develoDment will ~enerate
a surplus of tax revenue over service costs of
$9.1 million in the first ten years.
