3590 Churchill Court
Pleasanton, CA 94566

August 29, 1983

Mayor Robert Butler
City Hall
Pleasanton, CA 94566

Dear Bob:

Please accept this letter as my resignation from the
Industrial General Plan Review.

I am reluctant to take this action, but the recent council
adoption of a General Plan amendment adopting industrial
densities ~ in excess of what, in my judgement, is either
wise or meaningful convinces me of the futility of my devoting
any more time to this review.

Bob, as you will recall, I was the first to suggest the
wisdom of a citizens' review of our General Plan. This sug-
gestion was made during the PUD hearings on the Hacienda
Business Park. I thought at that time, and still do, that a
General Plan Review was a much better format for an honest and
open decision of our community's future growth than any legal
or political action, which could be taken as a result of an
individual General Plan amendment adopted by the City Council.

I still believe that Pleasanton would have been best
served by the unhampered completion of the review process and
am honestly mystified by the council's action in amending our
General Plan before the review process was complete.

In my opinion, the citizens review could have been used
as a foram for the people of Pleasanton to decide what sort
of community we want and what kind of growth we are willing
to support. Apparently, this is not to be.

I still believe a proper debate willtake place, but in
a format different from a General Plan Review.

Sincerely,

Former Mayor

co:

John Innes
Wendy Themos
Chandler Lee
