Implementation Program 2: To continue to apply high
standards of construction inspection to all housing
development.

The various uniform construction codes (Building, Fire, Plumbing,
Mechanical, Electrical and Housing Codes) have been adopted and
are periodically updated by the City. These codes provide for
construction inspection based on nationally recognized safety
standards. The City's building inspection division has the
responsibility for administering these codes. Adequate staffing
of the division according to the level of development activity
is critical if the code standards are to be effectively main-
tained. The City is desirous that not only aesthetic but also
fire and life safety considerations be fully addressed in the
review of all new residential development.

Policy 3

...to effectively encourage rental housing
construction so that it represents at least
one-half of total multi-family construction.

-8-
