Dowling Associates, Inc.
Transportation Engineering Planning Research Education
3. Select intersections for analysis based on input from City staff regarding "criteria" (e.g., all
intersections with >25 AM or PM peak hour project trips and all LOS FA; intersections with >2 AM
or PM peak hour project trips).
3.2 PROVIDE MODEL OUTPUT GRAPHICS (SELECT LINK AND TOTAL VOLUME PLOTS)
Dowling Associates typically provides model plots showing band widths of volumes to /from the proposed
project (see sample on next page) and postings of project volumes. Please note that when we provide these
plots, usually in .PDF format, we post the volumes at a very small font size so that users can zoom in on
interchanges and see the numbers. Therefore, the project volume postings will not be visible on the sample.
We believe this format has been very effective for use by us and other traffic impact study consultants and
also provides a quick "reality check" for City staff upon review. If forecasts are unreasonable, changes to the
input assumptions can be made and the model rerun prior to intersection anlaysis.
3.3 PROVIDE LOADED MICRO SIMULATION MODEL (SYNCHRO OUTPUT) FOR PROJECT
If requested, Dowling Associates could also upload the proposed project trips into Synchro and provide these
"loaded" model alternatives to the City.
City of Pleasanton
2009 Traffic Model Update
May 13, 2009
