WHEREAS, significant use of local and out -of -basin groundwater storage reduces the <br />number of years that Zone 7 can meet the full demands of the Retailers in the event of a long <br />term curtailment of State Water Project water deliveries from the DWR due to environmental <br />issues; and <br />WHEREAS, implementation of local water conservation and use reduction measures for <br />Retailers' customers for 2009 will extend the length of time Zone 7's stored groundwater supply <br />will bridge the difference between the State Water Project water supply and the Tri- Valley water <br />demand; and <br />WHEREAS, saving the local groundwater supply may reduce the severity and length of <br />future water use restrictions that may be imposed on customers until Delta improvements are <br />complete; and <br />WHEREAS, only the legislative bodies of the Retailers can impose water conservation <br />demand reduction requirements on customers. <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />PLEASANTON DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE, AND ORDER THE FOLLOWING: <br />SECTION 1. Agrees that it is good public policy for preservation of the water supply to <br />request Pleasanton water customers to reduce their potable water demands on a voluntary <br />basis by 20 percent in 2009; and <br />SECTION 2.
