WHEREAS, significant use of local and out -of -basin groundwater storage reduces the number of years that Zone 7 can meet the full demands of the Retailers in the event of a long term curtailment of State Water Project water deliveries from the DWR due to environmental issues; and WHEREAS, implementation of local water conservation and use reduction measures for Retailers' customers for 2009 will extend the length of time Zone 7's stored groundwater supply will bridge the difference between the State Water Project water supply and the Tri- Valley water demand; and WHEREAS, saving the local groundwater supply may reduce the severity and length of future water use restrictions that may be imposed on customers until Delta improvements are complete; and WHEREAS, only the legislative bodies of the Retailers can impose water conservation demand reduction requirements on customers. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE, AND ORDER THE FOLLOWING: SECTION 1. Agrees that it is good public policy for preservation of the water supply to request Pleasanton water customers to reduce their potable water demands on a voluntary basis by 20 percent in 2009; and SECTION 2. City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this resolution and enter it into the book of original resolutions.
