Councilmember McGovern asked that the public be updated on the current status of the
public/private sector salary study. She also noted extensive graffiti on the sound wall that faces
Windsor Drive and southbound I-680 Bernal Street exit.
COUNCIL REPORTS
Councilmember Thorne reported attendance at the National League of Cities Conference in
Washington which was comprised of local elected officials and staff from over 4,000 cities. He
suggested that the Council consider sending a second person in the future, as there was more
information than one person could absorb. He was encouraged by the elevated interest in
outreach to local governments and based on what he learned, Pleasanton is correct to have
appointed a committee for monitoring the distribution of stimulus funds. He said that he learned
the most from the appointments to the National Committee for Energy and the Environment as
well as the Committee on Economic Development and Housing.
He also noted that the National League Cities has offered a drug discount program at no cost to
member cities who can issue the 20% discount card to be used at select drugstores by anyone
without medical insurance.
Mayor Hosterman attended a 2-day Energy Coalition Conference in Aspen, as well as a League
of California Cities -Housing and Economic Development Legislative Committee conference in
Los Angeles. The latter spent the day reviewing and establishing positions on upcoming
legislation.
Councilmember Cook-Kallio reported that she was in Washington last week with a student who
won an essay contest; while there, she was able to meet with Congressman Stark's office as
well as those of Congressman McNerney and Senator Boxer. She reiterated the Tri-Valley
Mayors' request for individual and regional funding and was assured that all had been noted.
ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:21 p.m
Respectfully submitted,
Karen Diaz
City Clerk
City Council Minutes Page 17 of 17 April 7, 2009
