Mayor Hosterman agreed.
Councilmember McGovern asked for clarification on the cost effects to the public.
Councilmember Cook-Kallio said that alcoholic and other large beverage containers will incur a
CRV charge.
Councilmember McGovern noted that while there is no refund, those bottles are currently
recyclable. Councilmember Cook-Kallio said that statistically, they find that attaching a CRV
increases recycling efforts by 60-80%.
Mr. Fialho said that if there is support, he will direct staff to study the legislation and return on
April 21 with background material and a resolution.
Councilmember Sullivan supported that and confirmed that evidence indicates recycling rates
increase dramatically in the presence of a CRV.
Councilmember McGovern confirmed that containers without a CRV are currently recyclable but
provide no reimbursement for doing so.
Councilmember McGovern asked for a status update on the Parkview assisted living facility.
Staff agreed to provide and update and Mayor Hosterman asked that it include a City Manager
update.
City Council Minutes Page 16 of 17 April 7, 2009
