BACKGROUND
Pleasanton artist Debbie Ward rope has offered to donate her framed original pastel
painting entitled "Century House" to the City. The City of Pleasanton's Public Art
Ordinance requires that the Civic Arts Commission review any public art gift proposals,
solicit appropriate public and City commission input, and provide a final
recommendation to the City Council as to whether or not the Council should accept the
gift. The artwork was presented to the Civic Arts Commission at its March 2, 2009
meeting, and to the Parks and Recreation Commission on March 12, 2009. Both
commissions enthusiastically gave their initial support. The Civic Arts Commission, at
its meeting of April 6, 2009, reviewed the proposed gift, acknowledged the support
given by the Parks and Recreation Commission at its March 12 meeting, and voted
unanimously to recommend to the City Council that it accept the donation. The Civic
Arts Commission also indicated its desire that the painting be placed in a location where
it could be enjoyed by a maximum amount of members of the public.
DISCUSSION
Pleasanton resident Debbie Wardrope is an accomplished and highly respected artist.
She is a member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast, and has won numerous
awards. She is currently represented by both Studio 7 Fine Art Gallery in Pleasanton,
and the New Masters Gallery in Carmel. Her work would be ideal for installation at the
Century House or in an area accessible to a larger portion of the public within the Civic
Center complex.
Submitted by:
Fiscal Review:
Approve by:
Susan Andrade-Wax Da~v-did P.
