In conjunction with other "fri-Valley cities, the City of Pleasanton will work with F,L3H0 in <br />FY 2009 in activities related to Affordable Housing Week, held annually in May. "Phis will <br />include media presentations, affordable housing tours, and other activities focusing spccitically <br />on affordable housing efforts past, present, and future in the Tri-Valley area. As the focus of <br />Affordable Housing Week two years ago, the City worked with other Tri-Valley jurisdictions to <br />highlight the appointment of the tirst board of directors and the first successful buyer loom the <br />"fri-Valley Housing Opportunity Center cited earlier. <br />'fhc Cily has also recently begun to work with local housing advocacy groups such as Citizens <br />for a Caring Community (CCC) which has adopted the issue of affordable housing in the Tri- <br />Valley area as the focus of its organizational efforts. In collaboration with F,BHO, the groups <br />held a workshop on affordable housing issues in 2005. "fhc event was widely attended by a <br />diverse representation of community residents and leaders. [n March 2007, City staff <br />participated in an affordable housing forum held at Sl. Elizabeth Seton church in Pleasanton and <br />will continue to work these groups in FY 2009 to promote the bcnetits of affordable housing in <br />the community. The February 2009 'fri-Valley housing tour highlighted the tangible benefits <br />provided to communities through the state's Work Eorce I Iousing program which has provided <br />tinancial rewards to communities that have been able to produce housing to meet the needs of the <br />state's work force. <br />"fhc Pleasanton Housing Commission has sponsored similar workshops to promote the <br />understanding of affordable housing, particularly financing issues. A 2002 workshop was <br />oriented spccitically to our local community and targeted decision makers as well as community <br />partners and the general public. 'fhe City collaborated with other cities in the "fri-Valley area to <br />sponsor another housing forum in August 2002. The latter event was widely attended and <br />featured Congresswoman Ellen "fauscher as a key-note speaker. [Congresswoman "Causchcr was <br />instrumental in the establishment of the Tri-Valley I Iousing Opportunity Center. ~ The City will <br />assist the BayC?ast Association of Realtors in its sponsorship of a "real estate town hall meeting" <br />in May 2009. The event will also highlight the National Association of Realtors (NAR) <br />"Ambassadors for Cities" award to I3ayGast and the City of Pleasanton relative to their support of <br />the'fri-Valley 1[ousing Opportunity Center (one of only tive awards NAR throughout the nation <br />in 2009). <br />[n 2004, the City's Housing Commission initiated planning for a region-wide symposium on <br />senior housing and services. This concept eventually became a series of symposia that will be <br />offered on a regular basis through local libraries in the Tri-Valley area. 'fhe focus of the series <br />will be to provide information and resources to individuals and families seeking assistance on <br />matters related to housing and services for seniors in the area. <br />Areas of Minorit~Concentration <br />Pleasanton is a small, relatively young city and has traditionally not had any areas in which <br />minority groups reside in significant concentration.
