THE CITY OF <br />~~ °~ °~ =='~ "" CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />[~L£~S~4NTON® <br />April 7, 2009 <br />Parks and Community Services <br />TITLE: APPROVAL OF PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AGREEMENT WITH <br />AQUATIC DESIGN GROUP FOR THE DESIGN OF DOLORES <br />BENGTSON AQUATIC CENTER MECHANICAL ROOM AND DECK <br />IMPROVEMENTS <br />SUMMARY <br />The fiscal year 2008-09 Mid-Term Capital Improvement Program (CIP) includes <br />$100,000 for design costs to replace deteriorated pool decks, pool filtrations <br />infrastructure and improvements to the mechanical room at the Dolores Bengtson <br />Aquatic Center (Aquatic Center). The decks, which were installed at the time the Aquatic <br />Center was constructed are in poor condition and need replacement to assure user <br />safety. The filtration improvements are necessary to address current public health <br />standards requiring separate filtration of each of the Aquatic Center's three pools. <br />Currently three of the facilities four pools share' a single filtration system. Mechanical <br />room improvements are intended to address the poor condition of the existing building. <br />To carry out this project staff is recommending approval of a professional services <br />agreement with Aquatic Design Group (ADG). In addition to the design related to <br />improvements outlined in the CIP, staff is also recommending the consultant provide <br />options for photovoltaic (PV) generated electricity to supplement electricity from the <br />power grid. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Approve the attached professional service agreement with Aquatic Design Group, in an <br />amount not to exceed $100,000. <br />11 <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />CIP No. 087038 will provide $100,000 of the required funding. <br />
