Chairperson Casey invited presentations from the agencies submitting applications. <br />Vicki Johnson, Neighborhood Solutions (Housing Rehab Program) <br />Ms. Johnson informed the Commission that demand is high and varied for funds from the <br />Housing Rehab Program. She advised that proper marketing is important for the success <br />of this program and a brochure and word-of-mouth is currently being used. Requested <br />funds would be used for newspaper advertising and a mailer. Neighborhood Solutions <br />currently has three homeowners on their waiting list. <br />Sherri Burns, Community Resoruces for Independent Living / CRII, ([[ousing and <br />independent living services for persons with disabilities) <br />Ms. Burns expressed appreciation for past support from the City of Pleasanton that has <br />helped with the work they are able to provide to people with disabilities. "1'he Funds <br />requested arc for their housing assistance program. Ms. Burns provided details of the <br />homeless and low-income people they are able to assist and how they were able to <br />collaborate with other agencies in order to find affordable housing for these people. She <br />further advised that CRIL exceeded its goals for the past year and is on-line for the <br />current year and has noted a definite increase in the need for housing. <br />Shiela Brinson / Cherisse Baptiste, ECHO Housing (Housing counseling services; reverse <br />mortgage counseling for seniors) <br />Ms. Brinson and Ms. Baptiste provided details of the housing counseling services and the <br />reverse mortgage counseling provided by ECHO [lousing. "fhcy advised that home <br />seeking and shared housing has grown in demand. <br />Commissioner Stark discussed rental assistance being provided by L;CIIO to Pleasanton <br />residents and potentially abusive situations. Ms. Brinson provided information about <br />discerning problems and indicated that mediation has proven to be very successtul. <br />Penny Andersen, 1'ri-City [fomelcss Coalition /Adobe Services (Tri-Valley housing <br />Scholarship Program case management services and monthly rental subsidies) <br />Ms. Andersen provided details of the housing scholarship program that provides <br />temporary rent subsidies to Pleasanton residents. The Commission was advised that the <br />$80,000 grant request would provide monthly rent subsidies, while the $12,000 request <br />would be used to provide case management services for clients through partial funding of <br />the salary for the full-time case manager who administers the program. <br />"fhe Commission was informed that the program was modeled after a similar program in <br />Fremont and helps clients with housing needs while they stay in school.
