THE CITY OF
-••'~~°•'° °°'~"'~ CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
~ NTON~
April 7, 2009
Community Development
Engineering Division
TITLE: CONSIDERATION OF THE REINSTALLTION OF 18 STREET LIGHTS ON
FOOTHILL ROAD ADJACENT TO THE GOLDEN EAGLE DEVELOPMENT
SUMMARY
The City was recently approached by representatives of the Golden Eagle Luxury
Homeowners' Association about reinstalling eighteen street lights on the east side of
Foothill Road across the frontage of their development. Golden Eagle is a housing
development located on both sides of Foothill Road between Long View Drive and Oak
Manor Court. The street lights were originally installed as part of the development
improvements, and later removed at the request of residents who felt the lights did not
conform to the rural character of Foothill Road.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that Council take the following actions:
1. Approve the reinstallation of street lights on Foothill Road along the frontage of
the Golden Eagle development.
2. Approve entering into a contract with Vista Universal Inc. for the installation of the
subject street lights in the amount of $39,348 and authorize execution of the
contract by the City Manager.
3. Authorize the City Engineer to approve and execute contract change orders up to
a total amount of $5,902 (15% of the contract price).
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
There currently is an unencumbered balance of $103,637 within the street light
replacement fund for the 2008/09 fiscal year. Additionally, there will be a nominal
increase in the PG&E monthly invoice and street light maintenance contract for the
extra street lights.
