THE CITY OF 4 <br />-° ~"` "' °`~~~' "`r CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />~'L£~S~4NTON® <br />April 7, 2009 <br />Community Development <br />Engineering Division <br />TITLE: APPROVE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, REVIEW BIDS AND AWARD <br />CONTRACT TO A-1 CONSTRUCTION IN THE AMOUNT OF $114,875 FOR <br />ANNUAL SIDEWALK AND ACCESS RAMP INSTALLATION, CIP NO. <br />085005 <br />SUMMARY <br />Bids have been received for the Annual Sidewalk and Access Ramp Installation project <br />and staff is recommending award of the construction contract to the lowest responsible <br />bidder, A-1 Construction, in the amount of $114,875. The project consists of the <br />construction of 62 intersection ramps, 5 raised islands with passageways (resulting in <br />easier access to sidewalks for bicycles and pedestrians with wheelchairs and strollers), <br />and installation of yellow detectable warning surfaces at various locations (see <br />Attachment 1 for project locations). <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />1. Approve the plans and specifications for this project. <br />2. Review the bids received and award the construction contract for the subject project <br />to A-1 Construction of Castro Valley in the amount of $114,875. <br />3. Authorize the City Manager to enter into the above contract. <br />4. Authorize the Director of Community Development to approve and execute contract <br />change orders fora contingency amount not-to-exceed $23,000 (20% of the <br />contract) for necessary related subject project work. <br />5. Authorize the transfer of the balance ($31,408.74) of CIP No. 075005, Annual <br />Sidewalk and Access Ramp Installation, to the current year, CIP No. 085005, for <br />ease of project accounting. <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />This project wilt replace and upgrade existing infrastructure and should not increase <br />maintenance costs. <br />
