Section 17. <br /> <br />17.1 <br /> <br />17.2 <br /> <br />17.3 <br /> <br />17.4 <br /> <br />Probationary Period <br /> <br />Length of Probationary Period <br /> <br />All original appointments shall be tentative and subject <br />to a probationary period of twelve (12) months actual <br />service. All promotional appointments shall be tentative <br />and subject to a probationary period of six (6) months <br />actual service. The City Council may by resolution <br />establish a longer probationary period for specified <br />classes. <br /> <br />Notification Requirements <br /> <br />A probationary employee and his/her department head shall <br />be notified of the expiration of the emp!oyee's probationary <br />period forty-five (45) days in advance of said date. <br /> <br />Within twenty-one (21) days prior to the expiration date <br />of the probationary period, the department head shall file <br />with the Personnel Officer a statement as to whether or <br />not the probationary employee shall be retained in the <br />position. <br /> <br />An employee who is not rejected prior to the completion of <br />the prescribed probationary period shall be deemed to <br />have passed the prescribed probation p~riod automatically <br />subject to the provisions of Section 17.3. <br /> <br />In order that the probationary employee may be made aware <br />of his/her progress toward both learning and fulfilling <br />the duties and responsibilities of his/her position, he/she <br />shall receive a bi-monkhly performance evaluation. The <br />bi-monthly performance evaluations shall be made in writing <br />and shall be conducted by the employee's ims~ediate super- <br />visor and division commander. <br /> <br />Extension of Probationary Period <br /> <br />The probationary period may be extended once by the <br />Personnel Officer for a period nok to e:.:ceed ninety (90) <br />days in order to lurkher evaluate Lhe perfor-mance of ~he <br />p.~:obakionary emplol, ee. <br /> <br />Re ]ql. c kion of Probationary Employee - Original Appoin~mena <br /> <br />f~he City Manager may Eerminate a probakionary employee <br />during the probationarlz period upon fifteen (15) days <br />wriEEcn notice without right of app.eal in any manner by <br />the probationary employee. <br /> <br />-18- <br /> <br /> <br />
