2.2.3. Go~rnrrlent C~erations Emissions Inventory
The Government Operations Inventory includes facilities and equipment owned and operated by the City
and include the following sectors:
• Facilities
• Vehicle Fleet
• Public lighting
• Water/Irrigation
• Solid Waste
Emissions by Sector
In 2005, Pleasanton's government
operations emitted approximately
5,383 metric tans ~f COze
As visible in "fable 5 and Figure 5, the
largest source of emissions from
government operations are the City
facilities, emitting 44.0% of
greenhouse gases. 'The City fleet is the
second largest source of emissions,
emitting about one-fourth 24.9% of all
emissions."' Emissions from
electricity used for water pumps and
irrigation controls make up 19.6% of
total emissions, and public lighting are
also a significant source of emissions
Waste
Vehicle Fleet
24.9%
Public Lighting
10.8%
(10.8%). Waste created through government operations composes less than one percent of the total
emissions.
'fable 5 -Government GHG F,missions by Sector
Government
Emissions 2005
Buildin s
Vehicle Fleet Public
Li htin
Water
Waste
TOTAL
COie metric tons ~. During 2005, the Pleasanton municipal government spent approximately
$1.87 million on energy (electricity, natural gas, gasoline and diesel) to operate buildings, public lighting
and vehicles. "
Beyond reducing harmful greenhouse gases, any future reductions in municipal energy use can reduce
costs, enabling Pleasanton to reallocate limited funds toward other municipal services.
'G Due to the lack of available data, 20,180 gallons of fuel consumption was riot reported for the vehicle fleet. [f
reported, this would lead to increased emissions from the vehicle Fleet and increased costs from fuel purchases. See
text for details and an estimate of missing emissions.
"Ibid.
2005 Q-eenhalse Cis Emissia~s Il~ntory, Cityof Reasar~ttxl 12
Figure 5 -Government GHG Emissions by Sector
Government Operations GHG Emissions by Sector (2005)
Buildings 44.0%
