1
1
for the future widening to four lanes with turn lanes. Figures IV -5 and IV -6 are
conceptual cross sections of the Stoneridge Drive bridge and extension onto the Staples
Ranch property.
D. Emereencv Vehicle Access
Between the terminus of Stoneridge Drive on the west and the terminus of Auto Mall
Place on the east, an emergency vehicle access (EVA) route would be constructed. An
automated gate would prohibit any vehicular traffic (other than emergency vehicles and
possibly buses) from using the EVA to travel between Stoneridge Drive and El Charro
Road, preventing "cut through" vehicular traffic, although the EVA could be traversed by
pedestrians and bicyclists. Figure IV -7 is a conceptual cross section of the EVA. A
future extension of Stoneridge Drive would require the EVA and gate to be removed and
the roadways connected.
As discussed in the Land Use section above, each development site within Staples Ranch
would have a minimum of two routes for emergency vehicles —the standard vehicle
access route and a second, gated, access for use in the event the standard route is blocked.
E. Pedestrian and Bicycle Access
A variety of pedestrian accessways are proposed. Six foot wide sidewalks, separated by
street tree plantings from the roadway, would be provided on both sides of Stoneridge
Drive, Auto Mall Place, the intervening EVA, and south of the Auto Mall Place /Jack
London Boulevard intersection on the west side of El Charro Road, along each
development's frontage. The sidewalk widths within the Community and Neighborhood
Parks could potentially be wider. As conceptually proposed, a 10 foot wide sidewalk
would also be provided on the two lane Stoneridge Drive bridge over the Arroyo Mocho.
A walkway would be provided through the EVA to facilitate pedestrian access between
the Community Park and the Neighborhood Park. Crosswalks would also be provided on
Auto Mall Place, Stoneridge Drive and El Charro Road. To facilitate pedestrian access
from existing neighborhoods along Stoneridge Drive, a pedestrian crossing light would
be installed at the Trevor Parkway intersection. Both Stoneridge Drive and Auto Mall
Place would include bike lanes.
If supported, Pleasanton would work with Zone 7 to open up the existing all weather
Zone 7 maintenance road along the north bank of the Arroyo Mocho as a public multi use
path with connections to the Community Park site and the Stoneridge bridge sidewalk
that would provide safe and convenient regional pedestrian access between Livermore
and Pleasanton without having to cross major roads. The maintenance road already goes
Stoneridge Drive Specific Plan Amendment/Staples Ranch
Draft October, 2008
42
