Public Utilities <br /> <br /> Pacific Gas and Electric Company provides natural gas and electric power <br />to the City. Pacific Bell provides telephone service. Water is supplied by <br />Alameda County Flood Control Zone 7 and Pleasanton City wells. Sewer service <br />is supplied by the Dublin-San Ramon Services District. <br /> <br />Transportation <br /> <br /> Interstate Highway 580 (east-west) and Interstate Highway 680 <br />(north-south) intersect at the northern boundary of Pleasanton and provide <br />access to the nearby cities of Oakland, San Francisco, Sacramento, San Jose <br />and the Central Valley. Interstate Highways 5 and 80 and State Route 17 are <br />all within 20 minutes of the City. <br /> <br /> Pleasanton is located 17 miles from Oakland International Airport, 33 <br />miles from San Jose Municipal Airport, and 36 miles from San Francisco <br />International Airport. Livermore Municipal Airport, a general aviation <br />facility, is located 6 miles east of the City. Deep water shipping facilities <br />are available at the Port of Oakland and the Port of San Francisco, 24 miles <br />and 35 miles from the City, respectively. <br /> <br /> A. C. Transit provides regional bus service and connects with the <br />Greyhound Terminal in Livermore and the Hayward and Walnut Creek Bay Area <br />Rapid Transit (BART) stations. BART provides passenger rail service to <br />Alameda, Contra Costa and San Francisco counties. Western Pacific and <br />Southern Pacific provide rail freight service to the City. Twenty-three truck <br />lines provide overnight delivery to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Sacramento and <br />the San Joaquin Valley. <br /> <br />Education <br /> <br /> The Pleasanton Joint School District (grades K-8) and the Amador Valley <br />Joint Union High School District (grades 9-12) provide public education in the <br />City. There are six elementary schools, two intermediate schools, two high <br />schools and an adult school. In addition there are several churc-affiliated <br />private elementary and high schools. <br /> <br /> The Hayward and Valley (Livermore) campuses of Chabot College provide <br />post-secondary education and are operated'by the South County Community <br />Colleges District. East Bay colleges and universities include the University <br />of California at Berkeley, California State University at Hayward, Mills <br />College, St. Mary's College and Holy Names College. In addition, Stanford <br />University, the University of Santa Clara and Hastings College of Law are all <br />within an hour's drive of the City of Pleasanton. <br /> <br />E-8 <br /> <br /> <br />
