THE CITY OF
-~- CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
j~L~~Sl~NTONo
December 2, 2008
Community Development
Traffic Division
TITLE: ADOPT RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE ALAMEDA COUNTY ACTIVE
TRANSPORTATION CAMPAIGN
SUMMARY
The Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority (ACTIA) joined the Rails-to-
Trails Conservancy's (RTC) national Active Transportation campaign in 2007. The
purpose of the campaign is to increase funding for walking and biking in the next federal
transportation bill, scheduled to be adopted by 2010. If this campaign is successful,
Alameda County could be one of 40 communities to receive $50 million each for
bicycling and walking projects. ACTIA has requested that local jurisdictions show
support for this campaign by adopting a resolution in support of the Alameda County
Active Transportation Campaign.
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt the attached resolution endorsing the Alameda County Active Transportation
Campaign.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
There is no immediate financial impact. If the Active Transportation Campaign is
successful, Alameda County will receive $50 million for bicycling and walking projects.
At this time, the ACTIA has not identified the amount of funding for each project. If the
campaign is successful, Pleasanton is likely to receive significant funding for completion
of the Iron Horse Trail in Pleasanton.
