BACKGROUND On May 20, 2008, Pleasanton's City Council awarded the contract for the project to George Bianchi Construction Inc. in the amount of $162,148.73. The City Council also authorized the Director of Public Works to approve change orders up to the project contingency amount of $33,000. Change orders included additional sidewalk repairs and the addition of Greenwood Drive for a total amount of $30,073.34. The subject project has since been completed and is ready for acceptance. The contractor was charged with liquidated damages for the amount of $2,500 for not completing the work within the specified number of working days established in the contract document. The project consisted of the removal and replacement of concrete curb and gutter, sidewalk, driveways and curb through drains and installation of new access ramps on various City streets as shown on Attachment 1. Sidewalk maintenance is a part of an ongoing annual program. The locations are selected from the Streets Division's work order requests and prioritized based on severity of tripping hazards. Curb and gutter locations are selected from drainage problem areas and where severe cracking and displacement of curb and gutter are observed. The repair locations also include damaged sidewalk and curb and gutter sites evaluated by the City's Engineering Division. DISCUSSION Budget A summary of the project's funding sources and expenditures is presented in Attachment 2. The construction cost was increased by $30,073.34, as the Streets Division identified additional locations with tripping hazards requiring the replacement of sidewalk. Staff recommends moving the balance amount of $15,857.59 to a future sidewalk maintenance project, CIP No. 085012, Annual Sidewalk Maintenance.
