Ayes: Councilmembers Cook-Kallio, McGovern, Sullivan, Thorne, Mayor Hosterman <br />Noes: None <br />Absent: None <br />MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br />Councilmember Sullivan read the Proclamation recognizing the annual observance of Veterans <br />Day and those who have and continue to serve in conflicts. <br />Jim Lyon, Commander of the VFW Post 698, thanked the City Council and staff for the <br />Proclamation and for their support of Veteran activities and affairs. <br />10. Presentation to the Pleasanton American Little League AIIStar Team <br />Councilmember Sullivan recognized players and coaches of the Pleasanton American Little <br />League All-Start Team for their great achievement in winning the District 57 Tournament and <br />the California State Tournament, advancing to the Western Regional Tournament in San <br />Bernardino and playing against the eventual World Champions from Hawaii. <br />Players and coaches recognized include: Ryan Alley, Jake Dronkers, Chase Hennings, TJ <br />Friedl, Ryan Meisenheimer, Austin Piscotty, Jakob Wipfli, Ryan Anderson, Brian Hsu, Kyle <br />Greenan, Nick Goldstein, Matt Shackley, Zack Schmidt and Coaches Ron Anderson, Mike <br />Piscotty, Paul Hennings, and Michael Cemen. <br />Coach Anderson thanked the Council for the honor and recognition of players, said they look <br />forvvard to their challenge with Hawaii again on new Bernal fields. <br />11. Presentation by USAR Camp Parks recognizing the City's support of the Military at <br />Camp Parks <br />Councilmember Sullivan recognized the City's support of the military at Camp Parks, stating <br />Camp Parks is home of the Army's 91st Division (Reserve) and serves as a vital part of the total <br />Army in the Western United States. It is the only training facility within a short drive for 11,000- <br />plus reservists living in the San Francisco Bay Area. He said the City is pleased and proud to <br />support its military neighbors at Camp Parks and he introduced Lieutenant Colonel John <br />Cushman. <br />Lieutenant Colonel John Cushman presented an Army Community Covenant to Mayor <br />Hosterman which is designed to foster, sustain and increase level of effective state and <br />community partnerships in improving the quality of life for soldiers and their families, duties <br />stations, and as they transfer from one state to another. It recognizes the strength of soldiers, <br />their community and commitment. <br />12. Public Comment <br />Paul Martens discussed the theft of political signs from his property, the influence of money on <br />politics, and various donations made by individuals. <br />Karen Martens cited donations made to various causes, asked citizens to say yes to PP and no <br />to QO. <br />Mayor Hosterman discussed campaign filing forms which are located on the City's website. <br />Vince Rocha, on behalf of Congressman McNerney and as a member of the U.S. House of <br />Representatives Committee on Veterans Affairs, recognized the many Pleasanton residents <br />City Council Minutes 3 October 21, 2008 <br />
