Steve Brozosky, Pleasanton Unified School District Board, welcomed families back in school, said enrollment is up, discussed budget cuts of $2 million and reported on their new student information system, new science curriculum and an on-line component and their school board election. Fred Norman said Gary Meyer was the first Pleasanton resident killed in the Vietnam war and asked the City to replace his plaque in Kottinger Park, said 1,475 American troops have been killed in Iraq, said 23 were killed last month and 1 was killed today. Kathy Dowding quoted words of Albert Einstein, asked people to speak out and join the Pleasantonians for Peace, said they would hold a march on September 10, and read the names of 8 soldiers who were recently killed. Christine Steiner said for over 20 years, the Council has supported the Senior Support Program of the Tri-Valley, discussed their goals and noted their staff is stretched to the limits. She said their Board is holding their first fundraiser, she encouraged everyone to support their agency and attend and distributed flyers on the event. Kay Ayala discussed the two issues on the ballot; Measure PP and Measure OO, voiced concern over the Mayor's Report's discussion and the policy about the discussion of measures during an election, and asked that if there is discussion regarding not counting workforce housing toward the housing cap, that this be made known to the public.
