Approved plans and specifications, reviewed bids, awarded and authorized the City <br />Manager to execute a construction contract to DSS in the amount of $376,792 for Foothill <br />Road Widening, Resurfacing and Storm Drainage Improvements, CIP Nos. 995019 and <br />985013; and authorized the Director of Public Works to approve and execute change <br />orders in an amount not to exceed $56,519 <br />10. Presentation by the Sentinels of Freedom <br />Vice Mayor Thorne introduced the item, stating the group serves as a resource for veterans with <br />severe injuries. He said joining the Council is Mr. Mike Conklin who formed the Sentinels of <br />Freedom and whose son is an Army Ranger who was injured seriously in Iraq. <br />Mr. Mike Conklin gave a video presentation on the Sentinels of Freedom program, said he is <br />thrilled the City has endorsed the program, and briefly described the program, its mission, and <br />said they will now get started on working on a Sentinel program for Pleasanton. <br />13. Business Anniversary Recognition <br />Economic Development Director Pamela Ott presented awards to 32 of the 95 businesses who <br />were present celebrating milestones of 15, 20, 25 or 30 years in Pleasanton. <br />14. Public Comment <br />Jim Lyon, Commander of Veterans of Foreign War Post 6298, thanked and praised the City <br />Council, staff, businesses and Sentinels of Freedom for endorsing the Sentinels of Freedom <br />program and offered continuing support. <br />David Ham, Chaplain for the Veterans of Foreign War Post 6298, thanked the Council and <br />those responsible for supporting the Sentinels of Freedom program and discussed on-going <br />Council Meeting Minutes 2 September 16, 2008 <br />
