PUBLIC HEARING CLOSED <br />Commissioner Maas expressed support with the trellis in the parking deck, the sidewalk being installed <br />as an amenity, and the BART shuttle. Further, she expressed support with the project. <br />Commissioner Kumaran expressed appreciation to Safeway for developing in Pleasanton and expressed <br />support of the project. <br />Chairperson Cooper stated reservations with the size and height of building and noted that attention <br />needed to be paid to landscaping. Further, he noted his willingness to accept staff s recommendation <br />with mitigations relating to traffic impacts. In conclusion, he expressed support with the project, and the <br />developer working with the City's Civic Art Commission to provide public art. <br />Commissioner Roberts expressed her concern with the mass of the building as viewed from the I-580 <br />Freeway and ramp, but was supportive of the project in consideration of landscaping and when shown the <br />three-dimensional model which demonstrated considerable architectural articulation. <br />Commissioner Sullivan stated after discussion with Larissa Seto, City Counsel, there is no conflict of <br />interest on his part due to his residence being in the vicinity of the project. <br />Further, Commissioner Sullivan expressed concern with impacts on traffic and expressed his support <br />with the progressive steps that are being taken to mitigate traffic problems. <br />Commissioner Sullivan expressed his support with the project. In conclusion, he noted that projects <br />like the Safeway project are appropriate next to freeways. <br />Commissioner Dove expressed support with the project and with the developer working with the City's <br />Civic Arts Commission to provide public art. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Kumaran, seconded by Commissioner Maas, making the <br />finding that the proposed project is in conformance to the Pleasanton General Plan. <br />ROLL CALL VOTE <br />AYES: Commissioners Maas, Kumaran, Roberts, Sullivan and Chairperson Cooper <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br />ABSTAIN: None <br />A motion was made by Commissioner ,seconded by Commissioner Maas, making the finding that <br />the proposed project would not have a significant environmental impact and adopt a resolution <br />approving Exhibit "C", the draft Initial Study and Negative Declaration. <br />PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES July 22, 1998 Page 12 <br />
