Commissioner Barker amended page 10, paragraph 4, sentence 3, to read as follows: "She commented
that the City had a chance to build a pazk in the Hacienda Business Pazk and that thirty-three acres was
offered to the City for the cost of the taxes and bonds, and the City turned it down."
Commissioner Barker also amended page 10, paragraph 5, sentence 2, to read as follows: "She noted
her dissatisfaction with staff in that information requested in February regazding the comparative return
on different types of land was not received until this evening."
Ms. Varela, 3858 Mohr Avenue, asked whether the approval of minutes included review by the City
Attorney's office, noting that a copy of other meetings' minutes she requested was unavailable because
they were being reviewed by the City Attorney's office. Ms. Seto stated that that was probably an
exception, as it is not standazd practice for minutes to be reviewed by the City Attorney's office.
Ms. Varela referred to page 8, paragraph 2, sentence 1, of the minutes and commented that while some
of her statements "sort of were stated this way," the meaning, as written, is different than what she
intended. In response to a question by Chair Cooper, she acknowledged that she did, in fact, say that she
was unhappy with the outcome of the General Plan. However, what she meant to convey is that she
feels the proposed east side committee does not need a facilitator, and "we" would much rather see an
elected chairperson on the committee, rather than having a facilitator. She noted that while there could
be consultants on the various committees, they should be chaired by residents.
She also gave an explanation as to why she is not in favor of the 80% residenU20% special interest
committees, noting that the prolonged process in the past has caused many residents to drop out of
- participation, thus leaving the influentia120% special interest portions of the committees steering
decisions in their favor. She, therefore, feels that a different system needs to be implemented, and the
residents are in support of the system proposed by Stan Erickson at the Special Meeting. She also noted
for the record that the proposal presented by Mr. Erickson was formulated by a group of proponents of
the referendum.
In response to Chair Cooper's question asking whether she is happy with the wording of her comments
in the minutes, she stated "you never really aze."
Pam Albert, 1847 Harms Drive, amended page 9, pazagraph 3, sentence 8, to read as follows: "She
believes that the light industrial areas that are currently designated as such in the General Plan represent
existing development patterns." She also noted for the record that she does not feel it is appropriate to
change that light industrial designation.
MINUTES OF THE MARCH 25, 1998 MEETING
Commissioner Kumaran amended page 15, paragraph 2, sentences 1 and 2, to read as follows:
"Commissioner Kumaran reported that he has read the Telecommunications Act in its entirety while
working in a strategy group at his current employer. He noted that the primary reason for it was for
local companies to be able to provide long-distance service and long-distance companies to be allowed
to enter the local market."
___ _.----- -...___ ----r ------
