BACKGROUND On January 15, 2008 Pleasanton's City Council awarded the contract for the referenced project to McNamara and Smallman Construction Inc. in the amount of $451,895. The City Council also authorized the Director of Public Works to approve change orders up to the project contingency amount of $45,200. The subject project has since been completed and is ready for acceptance. The subject project consisted of removing existing damaged sanitary sewer mains, laterals and manholes and installing new industry standard sewer mains, laterals with 2- way cleanout and manholes along Old Bernal Avenue, Bernal Court, Amaral Circle. and parts of Mirador Avenue (see Attachment 1). Street improvements included the replacement of curb, sidewalk, driveways, traffic striping and landscaping. The project locations were selected from a list generated by the Utilities Division and coordinated with the City's street resurfacing schedule. DISCUSSION Budget A summary of the project's funding sources and expenditures is presented in Attachment 2. The construction cost was reduced by the amount of $9,340 due to a decrease in the estimated quantity of sewer laterals and curb and gutter replacement. Since additional funds were appropriated from the Sewer Replacement Fund balance at the award of contract, staff recommends the remaining balance of $54,794 be transferred back into the Sewer Replacement Fund.
