L~
THE~CITY Oj'F
`~°°'~~'~"' "°'° "" CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
~L£~S~4NTON®
September 16, 2008
Parks and Community Services
TITLE: APPROVE AN APPROPRIATION FROM THE CALLIPPE PRESERVE
GOLF COURSE REPLACEMENT RESERVE FOR THE FINAL PHASE
OF THE SAND BUNKER PROJECT
SUMMARY
The first phase of the Callippe Preserve Golf Course sand bunker replacement project
was completed in August 2008. Over 30 greenside sand bunkers were improved,
including repairs to the drainage system and replacement of the original small-grained,
clumping sand. Cost of the project was $79,500, and reaction from golfers has been
positive. Staff is now recommending completion of the remaining 27 fairway bunkers
beginning in late September, at a cost of $132,659. Funding of $111,000 is available in
the Golf Course Replacement Reserve, which would require the Council to advance
$22,000 from current year golf operations to complete the project.
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council approve the advance of $22,000 from current year golf operations
income to the Golf Course Replacement Reserve, and appropriate $132,659 to
complete the remaining sand bunkers at Callippe Preserve Golf Course.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The Golf Course Replacement Reserve receives approximately $82,000 in annual
allocations from income generated at Callippe Preserve. The current reserve balance
(after completion of the first phase sand bunker project) is $111,000. To complete
renovation of the remaining sand bunkers in the current fiscal year, an advance of
$22,000 from the FY 2009 Golf Course Replacement Reserve allocation is necessary.
This would leave a beginning balance of approximately $60,000 in the Replacement
Reserve for next fiscal year.
