<br />THE CITY OF <br />CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />PL£~S~4NTONo <br />September 16, 2008 <br />Public Works Department <br />TITLE: APPROVAL OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, REVIEW OF BIDS AND <br />AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT TO DSS COMPANY IN THE <br />AMOUNT OF $376,792 FOR FOOTHILL ROAD WIDENING, <br />RESURFACING AND STORM DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS, CIP NOS. <br />995019 AND 985013. <br />SUMMARY <br />Bids have been received for the Foothill Road Widening, Resurfacing and Storm <br />Drainage Improvements project and staff is recommending award of the construction <br />contract to the lowest responsible bidder, DSS Company, in the amount of $376,792. <br />The project consists of minor street widening to accommodate a pedestrian sidewalk on <br />the east side of Foothill Road and roadway resurfacing between Bernal Avenue and <br />Dorothea Court. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />1. Approve plans and specifications for this project. <br />2. Review the bids received and award the construction contract to DSS Company, <br />of Stockton, for a low bid amount of $376,792. <br />3. Authorize the City Manager to enter into the project contract. <br />4. Authorize the Director of Public Works to approve and execute any required <br />contract change orders to address unanticipated project conditions for snot-to- <br />exceed amount of $56,519 (approximately 15% of the contract). <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />This project will replace and upgrade existing infrastructure and should not increase <br />maintenance costs. The Foothill Road Widening project work is fully funded in the City's <br />Capital Improvement Program, as CIP Nos. 995019 and 985013. A summary of funding <br />sources and estimated expenditures is presented in Attachment 3. <br />
