Staff is recommending award of a
construction contract to the low bidder, Suarez and Munoz Construction, Inc., in the
amount of $186,200. The second phase consists of complete renovation of landscaping
and the irrigation system in eleven (11) median islands, from Cranwood Court to
Boardwalk Street. This work would result in roadway landscaping that is more
manageable by the Parks Maintenance Division, provides better vehicular sight
distance, and is commensurate in quality with the work recently completed for Phase 1,
as well as other roadway landscaping throughout the City. Funding is available from the
Park Renovation Fund.
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council take the following actions at its meeting of September 2, 2008:
1. Award a construction contract for the subject project to Suarez and Munoz
Construction, Inc., in the amount of $186,200.
2. Authorize the City Manager to execute the contract for this project.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The construction contract with Suarez and Munoz Construction, Inc. is in the amount of
$186,200, and staff is recommending a construction contingency of $27,930 (15%) to
allow for any changes in work that may be necessary due to unforeseen field conditions.
Funding is currently available for construction of the project from the Park Renovation
Fund.
These landscaped median islands are already maintained by the Parks Maintenance
Division, and no additional annual maintenance costs are anticipated due to the
proposed project.
