CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br /> ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 85-152 <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF SB 290 URGING INCREASE IN <br /> TRANSPORTATION REVENUES <br /> <br />WHEREAS, there is a recognized transportation funding crisis in <br /> the State of California and legislative action is <br /> urgently needed to meet this problem; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, transportation services are vital to the economic <br /> well-being of the State and its constituent counties and <br /> cities and are essential for daily activities of all the <br /> people; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the financing of transportation services through user <br /> charges has traditionally served the State well and <br /> should be continued; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, revenues from the State Motor Vehicle Fuel Tax have not <br /> kept pace with inflation; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, truck weight fees have not been adjusted correspondingly <br /> to meet the increased maintenance caused by heavier <br /> vehicles upon streets and highways; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, mass transit systems are also in need of increased <br /> funding; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, legislation in the form of Senate Bill 290 and Senate <br /> Constitutional Amendment 12 has been introduced which <br /> provides potential remedies for the above conditions; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: The City Council of the City of Pleasanton supports <br /> the reasonable increases of varied revenues, such as gas <br /> tax, truck weight fees, and sales tax revenues, which <br /> Senate Bill 290 embodies and which it allocates not only <br /> to local governments for their transportation programs <br /> but also to the State transportation program. <br /> <br />Section 2: The City Council of the City of Pleasanton supports <br /> the concept of Senate Constitutional Amendment 12 as <br /> providing a means for local government to raise <br /> additional funds for transportation when so needed. <br /> <br />Section 3: The above actions are taken in recognition that <br /> transportation is a vital and basic component of the <br /> social and economic growth of the State of California <br /> and can no longer be ignored. <br /> <br /> <br />
