20
THE CITY OF
' -~- "' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
j~L£~S~4NTONo
August 19, 2008
Public Works Department
TITLE: ACCEPTANCE OF PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS PERFORMED BY JJR
CONSTRUCTION, INC. FOR ANNUAL SIDEWALK AND ACCESS RAMP
INSTALLATION, CIP NO. 075005
SUMMARY
The subject project is complete and ready for acceptance by City Council. This project
consisted of the installation of 70 intersection ramps and 4 raised islands with
passageways at various City locations. The selected locations continued efforts to add
ramps to the Val Vista Park neighborhood and the Donlon Elementary School area.
The project also included updating existing crosswalk areas that did not meet current
Americans With Disabilities Act standards.
RECOMMENDATION
1. Accept the improvements for the subject project.
2. Authorize the City Clerk to file a Notice of Completion for the subject project.
3. Authorize payment of the retention in the amount of $10,677.10 to JJR
Construction, Inc. thirty days after recordation of the Notice of Completion.
4. Authorize final payment to JJR Construction in the amount of $12,014.14.
5. Authorize the use of $12,149.56 already existing in the budget for CIP No.
075005 to cover the additional expense of the change order that is beyond the
contingency amount originally approved.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
This project will replace and upgrade existing infrastructure and should not increase
maintenance costs. The construction project itself ended up costing $12,150 more
than previously approved, including contract and contingency. The reason for the
additional expense is that ten additional ramps were added toward the beginning of the
project and unexpected landscaping repair costs were incurred toward the end of the
project. Funds are available in CIP No. 075005 to cover this additional cost. A detailed
budget summary is attached (Attachment 2).
