8
THE CITY OF
-~- ~ CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
j~L£~S~4NTONo
August 19, 2008
Parks and Community Services Department
TITLE: ACCEPTANCE OF PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS, WEST LAS POSITAS
MEDIAN ISLAND LANDSCAPING, PHASE 1, PROJECT NO. 037042
SUMMARY
Construction of the planting and irrigation improvements for the first phase of this
project is now complete and ready for acceptance by the Council. The first phase
consisted of complete renovation of landscaping and irrigation systems in eight (8)
median islands, from Santa Rita Road to Rockingham Drive. The work has resulted in
roadway landscaping that is more manageable by the Parks Maintenance Division,
provides better vehicular sight distance, and is commensurate in quality with other
roadway landscaping throughout the City. The project was funded by the Park
Renovation Fund.
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council take the following actions at its meeting of August 19, 2008:
1. Accept the improvements for the subject project;
2. Authorize the City Clerk to file a Notice of Completion for the subject project;
3. Authorize a final progress payment in the amount of $8,371.75; and
4. Authorize payment of the retention (10%) in the amount of $22,405.30 to
Planned Environments, Inc., 30 days after filing the Notice of Completion.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The original construction contract with Planned Environments, Inc. was in the amount of
$213,369. Two (2) change orders totaling $10,684 were issued in order to overcome
unforeseen field conditions, and also to add cobble paving to a number of the median
island noses. This new paving will improve vehicular sight distance, but was not
included in the original project scope of work. The total project cost was therefore
$224,053. Construction of this project was funded through the Park Renovation Fund.
As this landscaped area was already maintained by the Parks Maintenance Division, it
is not anticipated that additional routine maintenance costs will be incurred.
