Box 520 <br />Pleasanton, CA 94566 <br /> <br /> RE: Participation in Pilot Household Wastes Collection Program <br /> <br />Dear Walker: <br /> <br /> ABAG,cordially invites the City of Pleasanton to ~articipate in a <br />Pilot Household Hazardous Wastes Collection Program for Alameda County. <br />The goals of this project are to 1) assist the cities in organizing multi- <br />city collection programs~ 2) provide financial assistance for operation of <br />a collection programs and 3) achieve an economy of costs through the <br />consolidation of individual collection days into a county-wide program. <br />The long term goal is to establish an ongoing Household Collection Program <br />throughout Alameda County pursuant to AB 1809. Funding for this project <br />has been provided by the State Water Resources Control Board under Section <br />205(j) of the Clean Water Act. <br /> <br /> On November 19 Alameda County City Managers endorsed a pilot county- <br />wide Household Hazardous Wastes Collection Program targeted for Spring <br />1987. A description of the program is included in Attachment ~ The <br />important features of the program are: <br /> <br /> o The organization and operation of six local area Household <br /> Hazardous Wastes Collection Days, <br /> o ABAG will provide $10,000 financial assistance towards hazardous <br /> wastes disposal costs for each local area Collection Day, <br /> o The participating cities will share the remainder of costs <br /> associated wi~h each local area Collection Day in proportion to the <br /> number of households within each city, <br /> o Participating cities" costs may be funded through a surcharge on <br /> solid waste collection fees as authorized by recent legislation AB <br /> 1809 - Household Hazardous Waste (1986). <br /> <br /> In order to prepare detailed program specifications and contract with <br />a hazardous waste disposal company, we request a response from your city <br />regarding your intent to participate in this program by December 31, 1986. <br />For your convenience, we have included a commitment form (Attachment B) <br />that may be filled out directly or used as a guideline for preparing a <br /> <br /> Representing City and County Governments of the San Francisco Bay Area <br /> MetroCenter · Eighth & Oak Streets · Oakland · (415) 464-7900 <br /> <br /> <br />
