BACKGROUND
The Transportation Development Act (TDA), Public Utilities Code, § 99233.3 and
99234, makes funds available in the nine-county Metropolitan Transportation
Commission (MTC) region for pedestrian/bicycle purposes. MTC makes annual
allocations of TDA funds to eligible claimants after review of submitted applications.
This report recommends that the City Council adopt the attached resolution approving
the application with MTC for Transportation Development Act (TDA) Article 3 funds in
the amount of $47,102. The City Council authorized the use of $50,000 in TDA funds in
2007 for this project. The construction cost estimate for the project is $80,000. With a
15% contingency, the total project cost is estimated at $92,000. The 2008/09 TDA
Article 3 funds will cover the additional cost and contingency for the project.
Eligible projects for these funds include: construction and/or engineering of a capital
project; to maintain a bikeway that is closed to motorized traffic; for a bicycle safety
education program; or, to develop bicycle or pedestrian facilities. The City of Pleasanton
Staff Traffic Committee recommends that an application be submitted for the Valley
Avenue Bicycle Path Gap Closure Project.
This is an annual project that is
intended to provide a safe walking
area for pedestrians and bicyclists. ~,~,
The project will construct a new 10-
foot asphalt path along the south
side of Valley Avenue adjacent to ~~1 •~ - °"~~~ ~~~•~ ;'
the canal that runs along the south
side of Valley Avenue.
