STAFF REPORT 86:386 <br /> SEPTEMBER 2, 1986 <br /> PAGE 2 <br /> <br /> Our HP3000 Series 42 computer is operating at capacity <br /> and needs to be upgraded to accommodate add. itional users <br /> including the automated permit system and to allow for <br /> future expansion. <br /> <br /> Purchase a micro computer for the Fire Department so <br /> they will be able to handle the many independent data <br /> tracking needs, such as hydrants and equipment <br /> inventories, state and county reporting requirements, <br /> analysis of fire causes and occurrence, trend <br /> projections, etc. It will also be able to access <br /> information from the proposed Parcel Management System. <br /> In the future, it will be able to communicate with the <br /> Pol ice Department ' s proposed Computer Aided Dispatch <br /> system, as well as a future Engineering Department <br /> Geo-based mapping system. <br /> <br /> · Continuation of regularly scheduled classes in basic <br /> computer familiarization, word processing, LOTUS <br /> spreadsheet, and data base management. <br /> <br /> · Retain Fairfax-Roe to assist staff in the implementation <br /> of these recommendations and to develop continuing <br /> training for staff. <br /> <br /> In lieu of purchasing an HP9000 at this time to provide <br /> computer mapping, the City is purchasing a full set of <br /> digitized maps from CH2M Hill under a consulting <br /> contract as provided in the Capital Improvement Program <br /> for 1986-87. <br /> <br />Implementation Schedule <br /> <br />The proposed implementation schedule (see attached chart) will <br />result in all tasks, software and hardware purchased, and staff <br />training being completed by mid March 1987. <br /> <br />Funding Source <br /> <br />The total cost for the proposed hardware and software exclusive <br />of the mapping system is $142,834 that will be funded over a four <br />year period. The funds for the first years lease payments have <br />been budgeted by the Finance Department and the funds for the <br />mapping system were approved in the 1986-87 Capital Improvement <br />Program. <br /> <br />Fairfax-Roe's agreement to assist in the implementation of the <br />plan is a time and materials agreement not to exceed $40,000. <br />The Finance Department has in its budget $54,000 for a vacant <br />Data Processing Supervisor position for 1986-87, and rather than <br /> <br />SR86: 386 <br /> <br /> <br />
