06080 Pavement Recycling Design Proposal -2-

technical data necessary to design asphalt concrete overlays
and to complete recycled pavement designs and, for those
pavements which may not be overlaid or recycled, provide a
generalized estimate of the years of future serviceability
before a major maintenance effort is needed.

4. We will excavate sample holes on Miradot, Bonita and
Entrada and obtain representative samples of existing
asphalt surfacing and aggregate base for laboratory testing.
We will excavate three sample pits in the Val Vista
subdivision and obtain representative samples of the
existing asphalt surfacing, aggregate base and clayey
subgrade soil to a depth of 18 inches for laboratory
testing..

5. We will test the samples obtained, evaluate the test
results and prepare mix designs as follows: ~:~-

a) The pulverized asphalt surfacing and aggregate base
samples from Miradot, Bonita and Entrada , will be
combined with an appropriate quantity of emulsified
asphalt recycling agent to produce a recycled asphalt
treated base.

b) The subgrade soil from the Val Vista subdivision
will be tested for R-value and expansion pressure
potential to determine how serious the expansive
characteristics are. If the soil is excessively
expansive, the pulverized asphalt surface, aggregate
base and subgrade soil will be combined with either
lime, portland cement or kiln dust to produce a treated
base. If the subgrade soil is not excessively
expansive, the pulverized asphalt surfacing and
aggregate base will be combined with emulsified
recycling agent as in (a).

6. The DYNAFLECT deflection data will be used with traffic
indexes to be provided by the City to determine the proper
pavement structural section for the various streets. The
options to be considered are straight overlay, overlay with
fabric, overlay with asphalt recycled base and overlay with
lime-cement- kiln dust (one selection) recycled base.

7. Prepare technical specifications for the recycled base
options recommended by CHEC.

8. Prepare a written engineering report which discusses the
work performed, data collected, the engineering Judgement
used and the rehabilitation options recommended.
