AGENDA August 19, 1986

COUNTY OF ALAMEDA
PUBLIC WORKS AGENCY
399 Elmhurst Sinel · Hayward. CA 94544-]39~
(415) 881-8470

August 8, 1986

The Honorable Board of Supervisors
Administration Butldtng
Oakland CA 94612

Oear Board Members:

SUBJECT: Approval of Amendment to Contract C-86-250
with the CIty of Pleasanton

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that your Board approve the amendment to Contract C-86-250 with
the City of Pleasanton which reduces the quantity of fill for which the. County is
obligated for spreading and compactton.

DISCUSSION:

On July 15, 1986, the County entered into an agreement with the City of Pleasanton
to receive excavated material from Pleasanton's project for the extension of
Valley Avenue and to have said excavated material placed on County-owned property
adjacent to Stanley Boulevard. Initially it was contemplated that the County
property would receive the entire estimated 70,000 cubic yards of excavated
matertal to be disposed of. However, at the time the agreement was being consu-
mated, Zone 7 of the Alameda County Flood Control and Water Conservation Oistrict
requested that consideration be given to leaving part of the site empty so that
it could be used for future disposal of excavated material to be removed from
flood control arroyos and streams within Zone 7.

Recently, the City has approached the County with a request to reduce the amount
of excavated material to be placed on the County's property since the City has
other uses for the material. Since the ortgtnal purpose for filling the Stanley
Boulevard property was to provide a butlding site for a County multi-service
center and since the amount of ftll offered by the City is sufficient to accom-
plish this end and such fill would be given ftrst priority to the County, it
appears in the County's interest to reduce the amount of fill to be taken. Reduc-
ing the amount of fill received would preserve more capacity to meet Zone 7's
future needs and, in addition, would reduce the cost to the County for filling and
compactton by the contractor.

FINANCING:

Funds for this work will come from the Road Fund, and this contract amendment will
reduce the amount of Road Fund outlay.

Otrec~ti~~ofziPubltc Works
HAF:ams
