SCHOOL MASTER PLAN

The Pleasanton Board of Education directed the superintendent to prepare a master plan
which would addressithe increased enrollments and provide a long term solution to solve our
crowded classrooms; The plan is to build (I) a new middle school in the Fairlands attendance
area (2) build Out Vintage Hills school site (3) reorganize K-6 schools into K-5 schools
once the new middle school site is completed, organize two middle schools into 6-8 schools
(S) sell the current district office (6) move district office to Pleasanton School (7) develop a
master plan to dispose of surplus land and use funds to remodel existing schools. This plan
wi II provide for the neighborhood school concept and assure classroom space for the next

years.

The long term plan requires some major parts of a puzzle to be found in order that this
picture may become clear. First~ is to obtain land in Northeast Pleasanton to build a new
middle school. This can be accomplished if the City can negotiate for the school district
whenever they obtain their parklands. The district needs approximately a ten acre site
located next to a five acre city park which could be used for the new school athletic fields.
Second, City Council needs to adopt the developer fee schedule which is attached to this
report. The fee would begin at~;3__.5:00 and escalate to $5000 over the next four years. This
fee con be used to finance phases of the new middle school and portions of Vintage Hills
School. Third, district place partable on the Harvest Park campus to accommodate new
incoming students while the new school is being constructed.

Without the fee schedule, the school district could not accommodate the projected future
growth, and each attendance area in the district would be negatively "impacted". This
would precipitate the school district to file a declaration of overcrowding with the City
Council.

Since the school district and parents feel this is a logical approach to solve our crowded
classrooms, the school district urges your support in levying the proposed fee to be used to
construct permanent school facilities.

Attachment I.
