The Fire Chief shall grant such leave and determine <br /> the amount thereof, pro~ided, however, that the <br /> Personnel Officer shall first, w~ere necessary, <br /> pass upon sufficiency of relationship. <br /> <br /> This provision does not apply if the family sickness or <br /> disability or the employsets bereavement occurs while <br /> the employee is on vacation leave. <br /> <br /> An employee eligible for temporary disability payments <br /> may use accumulated sick leave in order to maintain his <br /> regular income~ provided, however, that the employee <br /> shall be allowed a credit against sick leave to the <br /> extent that temporary disability payments are retained <br /> by the City. <br /> <br /> In order to receive compensation while absent on sick <br /> leave the employee shall notify his/her immediate <br /> superior or the Personnel Officer prior to or within <br /> four hours after the time set for beginning his/her <br /> daily duties or as may be specified by the Fire Chief. <br /> When absence is for more than one full shift, the <br /> employee may be required to file a physiciants <br /> certificate or a personal affidavit with the Personnel <br /> Officer stating the cause of the absence. <br /> <br />13.3 Sick Leave Increments <br /> <br /> Charge for sick leave used shall be on the basis of one <br /> (1) hour for each hour used in increments of twenty-four <br /> (24) hours for employees assigned to a 24-hour duty <br /> schedule~ provided, however, that: <br /> <br /> (1) If an employee reports for duty before 12:00 Noon <br /> on the second or any subsequent consecutive on-duty <br /> day after an illness with a written statement from <br /> a person licensed to practice medicine or <br /> dentistry, or, <br /> <br /> (2) If an employee becomes ill while on the job and <br /> must leave before the end of his/her shift, sick <br /> leave shall be charged for only those hours when <br /> the employee was absent from work. <br /> <br /> - 18 - <br /> <br /> <br />
