8
THE CITY OF
pL~£~S~NTONo CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
1
June 17, 2008
Parks and Community Services
TITLE: APPROVE AN APPROPRIATION FROM THE CALLIPPE PRESERVE
GOLF COURSE REPLACEMENT RESERVE FOR SAND BUNKER
PROJECT
SUMMARY
Callippe Preserve Golf Course continues to be well received by the golf community;
however, one area of concern from golfers, and the Course Superintendent, is the
inferior quality of the sand in the 58 sand bunkers on the golf course. The sand is
small-grained and clumps easily, the result of irrigation water (and rain water during the
rainy season) that does not drain quickly. This project proposes to replace the sand in
all bunkers over a three year period as replacement funds become available. The first
phase would focus on the 28 greenside bunkers, which currently have the most affect
on playability. The Golf Course Replacement Account currently has a balance of
$108,000, which is sufficient to fund the $84,709 first phase of the project.
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council authorize a supplemental appropriation and the expenditure of
$84,709 from the Golf Course Replacement Account for the first phase of the sand
bunker project.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The Golf Course Replacement Account receives approximately $80,000 in annual
allocations from revenues generated at Callippe Preserve, with a current reserve of
$108,000. Approval of this project would leave a balance of $23,291 in the
Replacement Account.
