Councilmember Thorne asked staff to return with a resolution on the Consent Calendar to
determine whether or not a community organization might be formed in Pleasanton for the
Sentinels of Freedom. He noted there was already an organization in Danville and San Ramon.
Mayor Hosterman requested and received City Council support for a resolution supporting the
concept of a City of One brought forth by students of Foothill High School, to be returned on the
Consent Calendar.
Councilmember McGovern said she enjoys the fact that youth are involved and trying to step
forward and make a difference in the world. Her concern is whether or not they are asking the
City to economically support this in some way, as there may be other groups wanting the same,
and asked staff to draft the resolution with that in mind.
Councilmember McGovern questioned if there was some way to allow Dr. Arnold or someone to
verify that the City actually has Callippe butterflies on the golf course. If they are there, it is an
extremely exciting thing, as the golf course is the home for which it was named. City Manager
Fialho said there is space dedicated to the Callippe butterfly which is monitored annually and
the City has its own monitoring firm which determines whether the habitat exists, but they do not
survey whether the Callippe is present. Staff is not conditioned to do this as part of the project;
they are conditioned only to maintain a habitat which is being done through the Council's
approval years ago.
Councilmember McGovern said plantings have died and not returned at the 12th and 18th holes,
and City Manager Fialho confirmed with Councilmembers that staff could agendize an item for
discussion and follow-up work.
Councilmember Cook-Kallio said she presented commendations to the 2008 California State
Champions on Sunday.
ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:55 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Karen Diaz
City Clerk
